Personal:

I was born in Moscow, Russia in '68, where I started running sprint events in '83. I moved to the US (NYC area) in '91 and didn't run again till '96 when I discovered road racing scene. I was hooked after my first 5K race. I had another break in running from '01-'04 and decided to seriously get back into it in August of '05. I'm married and have 16 year old daughter. I have moved to London in August '06, will probably stay here for a few years.

Did tempo intervals 3 x 1 mi. with 3 min. jog rest. I did better than expected, except for the first mile: 7:56, 7:48, 7:48. Jogged home slowly due to GI problems.

Total time: 51:59 (8:39 pace).

Asics Nimbus 9 - 250 mi.

So our team made the final by winning our local division, and off we went to Ashford, Kent to compete in the league final. We were clearly outclassed by a number of specialized track and field clubs (as opposed to our road running club), but we did the best we could and finished 6th out of 7 places.

I did all the sprints, javelin and 4x100m relay. The weather was a factor with a couple of torrential downpours and very strong winds on the fnal stretch, unfortunately. It was not the day for PRs. I was running in A string of all the heats (the strongest heats), and I finished dead last in all of them. I did 17.4 for 100, 36.3 for 200 and 1:18.9 for 400m. All much worse than I did in the season. I got some revenge in javelin, because it was done with the tailwind, and I got a PR of 14.67m and did not actually finish last for a change. Then I did 4x100m relay where our team was last again.

But overall it was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed a day out with the team!!

As expected, I was horribly sore and hobbled around for 7 miles. Took it easy, but noticed that right achilles bothered me sometimes. I first noticed it yesterday at the meet, after 200m. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, but with achilles you always have to be on guard. I'll see how it is tomorrow.

Total time: 1:04:34 (9:05 pace).

Ran an easy 5 before lung function tests tomorrow morning. My achilles was fine, although I felt it slightly around mile 2.5, but the discomfort went away in a couple of minutes. I was told not to do any strenuous exercise, so I figured 5 miles easy should be okay. Hopefully the tests will show that my lungs are fully recovered now. I'm seeing pulmonologist immediately after tests.

Total time: 45:04 (9:01 pace).

Asics Nimbus 9 - 261 miles

Ran 15 min. warmup, then 3.6mi in 30:03 (8:15 pace), and 15 min. cool down. I felt good, but overdid it in the middle of my tempo. I passed a big, overweight guy with jingling keys in his pocket, and then noticed that he was staying right behind me. Apparently he decided to try and keep up with me and make it a workout, but I was annoyed by his loud breathing, spitting and jingling keys, and so I kept increasing the pace, hoping to eventually drop him. He did drop back, but it took him almost 7 minutes. At that time, my average tempo pace was 8:10 - too fast. I slowed down a little after that, for a final average of 8:15. Other than that, it was uneventful run.

 Total time: 1:00:24 (8:30 pace)
