Personal:

I was born in Moscow, Russia in '68, where I started running sprint events in '83. I moved to the US (NYC area) in '91 and didn't run again till '96 when I discovered road racing scene. I was hooked after my first 5K race. I had another break in running from '01-'04 and decided to seriously get back into it in August of '05. I'm married and have 16 year old daughter. I have moved to London in August '06, will probably stay here for a few years.

ran on my treadmill today due to thunderstorms, lightning and hail outside. Today was unbelievably humid, 93% humidity all day long. My basement has no a/c and wasn't much better. I did 5.6mi in 53:00 (9:27 pace) and then did 4x20 sec. strides at 9.3 mph (6:27 pace). I felt good except for humidity. Watched CNN while I ran, which only made me more worried. I have relatives near Tel Aviv and friends in Haifa. They are all okay so far, but I still worry. One of my relatives may be recalled by IDF now... I hope he'll be spared because he has two small children.

Maria, thanks for your comments on my race today. I'M curious, what big race are you keying your running for? Mine is the St. George marathon in 10 weeks. How is your training going for the big race?

From Maria on Sat, Jul 22, 2006 at 20:01:22

I don't really have a "big race" per say planned right now. Because of my move to London in 4 weeks I am not 100% sure of what races will be available to me there. Even without that, I'm trying to raise my general aerobic fitness and get a better speed in 5K-10K first, before I try another marathon. I'd like to run 3:10-3:15 in the marathon, but that requires speed I don't currently have in shorter distances. So, I'm going to build my base over next few months. Increasing mileage has worked nicely for me in the beginning of this year, so I'm counting on it again.
